OUR LOCATION
Sefton Riding Ponies have recently relocated from Seymour to a new
property in Longwood, Victoria. Situated on the Hume Highway and
nestled in the rolling foothills of Mount Teneriffe, we are now
located approximately 1.5 hours North from Melbourne Airport.
Longwood is part of the Strathbogie Shire, an area widely known as
the “Horse capital” of Victoria and renowned for it’s many
thoroughbred breeding nurseries and for being “the” place to raise
young horses.
Our location within this thoroughbred breeding centre ensures that
we are closely situated to a number of Equine specific Veterinary
clinics with veterinarians who are solely dedicated to horse
breeding, neonatal care and the growth and development of young
horses and ponies.
OUR VISION
As
with most “equine enthusiasts” our priorities have been to
concentrate on the pony facilities! Our property is well fenced with
an emphasis on safety. We are extremely lucky to have an endless
supply of natural spring water and very fertile, nutrient rich soil,
both important factors in ensuring our young stock get the very best
start in life.
Our vision for the future includes being able to
provide a completely professional “mare care” service for broodmare
owners leaving their mares with us for service to one of our
resident stallions. We are determined to attain the status of
industry leaders in this area. We feel it is important to provide
this essential “peace of mind” for owners who do leave their mares
in our care and perhaps their foals as well.
OUR COMMITMENT
Here at Sefton, we are committed to breeding for temperament,
quality and movement, adopting the late Colin Hayes’ motto “the
future belongs to those who plan for it”
Our dedication lies in producing top quality ponies with a
temperament to match, and believe that this can only happen with
purposeful education started at a very young age. Our foals are very
well handled upon weaning and immediately initiated into our
“child-safe program”. We endeavour to introduce our ponies into many
different situations and scenarios that they will later have to deal
with under saddle, some with quite small riders aboard. We have
found that this training method not only produces ponies who are
even tempered but also become very willing and much more trainable
when it comes time for “breaking-in”.
It
is this temperament and trainability that is of paramount importance
at Sefton, as we endeavour to produce “dream ponies” for children
and parents alike to enjoy. Our basic aim is to produce classically
beautiful ponies that are “user-friendly” and able to win in the
show ring as led and ridden ponies as well as being suitable for
other varied activities.
